When patients have multiple encounters on the same day, you should use a Date of Service (DOS) modifier to indicate separate encounters. The DOS modifier can be any combination of letters and numbers. Similar to a patient ID, a DOS modifier must be non-identifiable.
Follow the instructions below to add a DOS modifier via manual entry or data integration.
Manual entry
You’ll need to separately add 2 visits for the patient on the same DOS. One of these visits will need a DOS modifier.
1. Click Advanced.
2. Add a DOS modifier in the (Optional) Visit Date Modifier row.
3. Click Use Same Patient.
4. Click Save and Add New Visit to add the second visit for the same DOS.
Data integration
1. Add a column to your spreadsheet titled Date of Service Modifier directly after the Date of Service column. You’ll need to add this DOS modifier to 1 of the visits to indicate it's a separate visit.
2. During the upload process, map the Date of Service Modifier option from the drop-down menu to the Date of Service Modifier column in your spreadsheet. This will create 2 separate visits with the same DOS.
3. You may have a field you can map to the Date of Service Modifier option that's generated in your data. If so, we'll need this field placed after the Date of Service column so it can be mapped to the Date of Service Modifier option.
