Appending and overwriting data in MIPSpro

When uploading data into MIPSpro, you can choose between Append and Overwrite. What do these options mean?

Append: This option adds supplemental data to what already exists in MIPSpro. If you upload a spreadsheet, the data from that spreadsheet will be added to the data already in your account. Nothing is erased. No codes are replaced.

Overwrite: This option replaces data in MIPSpro with the data you're uploading, provided some of the data in MIPSpro matches what's in the spreadsheet. Here are some examples of how it works.

  • Existing codes in MIPSpro associated with a patient ID and visit will be overwritten with the codes in your spreadsheet upload.
  • Existing codes will be removed from MIPSpro if you leave them out of your upload.
  • Existing patients will stay in MIPSpro if you leave them out of your new upload. None of their existing data will change.

Overwrite is a great tool to fix mistakes within visits already uploaded to MIPSpro. If overwriting to correct an error, such as adding the wrong numerator code, you’ll want to include:

  • Patient ID
  • Date of Service
  • All applicable codes (CPT, ICD-10, and numerator codes, plus applicable modifiers).
